A Star is Born Baby Shower

My family and friends threw me a Star is Born baby shower when I was pregnant with my daughter. Here are some of the details from my shower mixed in with some ideas that I have on the theme.

Décor: You could decorate the space with lots of white, pink and purple. At my shower, the girls used small star cutouts, which can be found at any party store, to help decorate the table along with flowers, typical baby box letters and fabric. To create both depth and and interesting elements on the tables, they bought various pieces of fabric that went with the theme (For example, they found white sheer fabric with sparkle stars, purple fabric with purple stars and pink shimmer fabric at a fabric store and just purchased a few yards). On the coffee table, the fabric was simply just draped in a bunch to add personality to the décor. (see pic) For the present table they put boxes of different sizes on the table and then draped the different fabric over the boxes to add depth and eye catching detail to the table. The girls also asked my mom if she had any of my favorite dolls from childhood. She gave them my cabbage patch doll. The girls put a tiara on the doll and made it a special guest at the shower.

VIP Chair for the Mom-to-be. At my shower, the girls set one chair up as basically my VIP chair. On it they put a pink boa, a tiara that said “Mother-to-be” and a wand. When I arrived at the shower they led me to the chair and had me put it all on. All of the items were purchased at a local party store and should be easy to find if you wished to replicate it.

Tableware: At my shower, they used pink plates and napkins but any color could really do. The girls wrapped pink disposable silverware in pink napkins and kept it all in place with the ring on a pacifier. Not only did this add a great detail to the event but I was able to sanitize all the pacifiers and use them when my daughter was born. A little advice- if you do this buy half the pacifiers in 0-6 months and half in 6 months plus.
Also they took disposable champagne glasses and tied purple curling ribbon around the stem and set them all on a tray together. And since the mom-to-be is the star of the event, I had a non-disposable purple glass, filled with apple juice of course. The guests had the same champagne that was served at my wedding. (see pic)

Games: Some games that go with the Star Is Born Theme: make a poster board of various celebrities’ babies and have guests match up the name to the picture. Another idea is to take the mom and dad’s names and have guests see how many baby names they can come up using just the letters in the mom and dad’s names. Give a prize to both the person with the most names and the person who came up with the name with the most “star-quality.”

Favors: For favors you can make up a mini swag bags. At many stores they have an aisle with travel-size products including mini bath bubble, bath petals, lotions, purse size nail files etc. Pick a few and add some candy and you are set. You could also just do star shaped cookies or simply star shaped cookie cutters.
